Handloom Culture of Nepal
Handloom weaving is a tradition in Nepal that has been practiced by the Rai and Limbu ethnic groups for generations. The skill has been passed down through the ages, and weaving is considered sacred because of its mysterious origins. Nepal’s textile industry dates back to around 3,000 BCE, and the trade predates the Silk Road by over 2,000 years.The handloom sector is a symbol of the country’s cultural heritage and an important source of livelihood. Over 70% of handloom weavers and allied workers are women, and the sector is key to women empowerment.

Anna, an experienced designer with extensive background in fashion, design, and production, currently serves as the Creative Production Director. Her responsibilities include supervising the design concept, production process, and brand essence to ensure a consistent vision from start to finish. With a Finnish heritage and a strong passion for beauty and quality, Anna brings more than two decades of expertise in fashion, product design, and cross-cultural communication. Driven by her pursuit of excellence and dedication to improving human well-being, Anna has refined her skills in product management, sourcing, and establishing global vendor relations. Her focus on enhancing human wellness is evident in her work, where she combines creativity with tangible results. Co-founding Aja Dynasty in 2019 marked a significant milestone in her career, leading to the opening of a flagship store in Kathmandu and a network of 15 sales points across Nepal, collaborating with over 30 local vendors. In a world increasingly reliant on technology, Anna values the preservation of traditional craftsmanship and aesthetic values that have enriched societies for generations. Through Aja Dynasty, she promotes local Nepali handicrafts and ancient art traditions, incorporating them into contemporary home decor, apparel, and accessories. By bridging heritage with modernity, Anna’s work not only upholds cultural legacies but also nurtures a sense of connection and admiration for artisanal craftsmanship.
